Nightmares

Spiralling In the abyss Empty silence Ringing in your ears

Silence Almost serene Then the peaceful calm yields To scarlet-bloodied shadows

Hallucination Thin, jagged lines Slicing the hollow void Of a makeshift slumber

Dizzying colours Stark red flashes In the darkness Behind the curtains of your eyes

Jolting awake, eyes slammed open The dream fading into the dark corners Back into reality, where the bright colours Drown out the shadows

But they’re there, lurking Just out of the 180

Visions left behind Like a haunting phantom

A strained truce—for now No more crimson-tainted darkness Just the memory of a silence too loud That lingers like a ringing gunshot

Until dusk falls again Illusions marring the temporary tranquil Without daylight’s clarity To show the poison of corruption

Whispers screaming in your mind Like a ghost clawing at the walls Eternal, endless, everlasting Nightmares.
